Palliative Care: Nursing Care


A nurse visits the home of the patient to give warm nursing care in way of :

Dressing and managing wound/ bed sore. |

2. |
Procedures like urinary catheterization, bladder wash, insertion of feeding tube, and injections. |
|
3. |
Educating and training family about general nursing care and hygiene of patient. |
|
4. |
Eucating family about healthy diet as per patient’s disease and feeding habits. |
|
5. |
Training caretakers about how to handle bed ridden patients with the help of medical eqipments e.g. use of oxygen cylinder, nebulizer, glucometer, blood pressure machine, air/alpha mattress, foot suction machine etc. |
They also train the caretaker about eye care, mouth care, skin care, perineal care, care of bed sore, massage of pressure points, passive exercise of major joints, prevention and care of lymphadematous limb.
The nurse encourages the relative to give divertional therapy as per the patient’s choice and hobby which helps in relieving psychological pain.
The nurse teaches the relatives some home remedies which reduces the overall cost of treatment.
