Department of Nephrology and Artificial Kidney
Dialysis (AKD) Unit is seven stations Haemodialysis
Unit. The unit is supported by state of art
water purification plant, which ensures ultra
pure water supply for the purpose of Dialysis.
Keeping in mind the financial constraints faced
by the Dialysis patients, the Unit follows the
policy of Reusing the Dialyzers and Tubing.
The unit is very sensitive about all the universal
aseptic precautions those are to be observed
while dialyzing the patients. This reflects
in the well being have the patients dialyzed
at the unit. The patients are dialyzed in a
serene and spiritually enlighten atmosphere.
The unit can organize a Dialysis in the Intensive
Care Unit. This allows taking care of critical
Patients and those who are on total artificial
support. Patients can also be kept on continuous
Renal Replacement Therapy in a critical scenario.
Since the Hospital houses all medical specialties,
the other requirements of Chronic Dialysis patients
are taken care of less than one roof.
The Artificial Kidney Dialysis Unit also has
the facility for Continuous Ambulatory
Peritoneal Dialysis, popularly known
as CAPD. It is a kind of home Dialysis where
patients are trained in the hospital to do the
Dialysis at home. And patients performs the
Dialysis at home in a familial atmosphere.
The department carries out all the invasive
procedures like Vascular Catheterization
and Kidney Biopsy etc.
The unit starts its operations from 7.00 a.m.
and works till 11.00 p.m. on all the weekdays.
The Unit is close on Sundays and operates only
in emergency situations. The patients are dialyzed
for 4 hours and either two or three times in
a week. The AKD staff has well-experienced and
trained dialysis technicians, Nurses, Dietitians,
and Nephrologists. Round the clock, Resident
Medical Doctors are available to take care of
the unforeseen medical emergencies.
