PAIN MANAGEMENT
 

Pain is the cry of the ailing tissues, a warning that something is wrong. Doctors define short-term pain as Acute Pain and long lasting pain (beyond 6 months) as Chronic Pain. Long lasting pain being more complex in nature should be treated under a Pain Physician.

 
Aims Of Pain Management Clinic:
  1. To reduce the level of pain.
  2. To eliminate the pain completely, if possible.
  3. To restore the sense of well being.
Types of pain
  1. Low back pain – sciatica, pain after surgery of spine.
  2. Cancer pain
  3. Headache – Migraine, Trigeminal Neuralgia.
  4. Myofacascial Pain – Torticollis, Tennis elbow.
  5. Pain due to reduced blood supply to the limbs.
  6. Any pain lasting for more than 6 months and not relieved by conventional treatment.
Methods of pain relief
  1. Medications (tablet, injections or by special infusion pumps).
  2. Nerve Blocks.
  3. Implantable devices: Spine cord stimulation, Inthrathecal drug delivery system.
  4. Trans Cutaneous Nerve Stimulation (T.E.N.S) Lasertherapy
  5. Radio frequency coagulation.
  6. Cryo-therapy
