PATIENTS FEEDBACK

Excerpts From Highlights Of “Patient Voice” On Spiritual Care

1
“On the behalf of the patient Mrs. Adilakshmi, I, her daughter would like to give the following feedback to the hospital :

The first and most important thing I would like to mention is that Dr. Aseem Diwan has done a fantastic and excellent job in treating my mother and I attribute her speedy recovery to his tremendous efforts. I thank him profusely for his care. “That’s my duty,” is his humble reply to my “Thank you, Sir.” I will always remember him in my prayers and so will my mother.
My Mother would also like to thank all the ICU staff for their excellent service and support except for one instance, where her headache was not reported to the Doctor till she screamed out in pain.

Dr. Uday and Dr. Vandana were also of great support. I would like to suggest that repeated complaints regarding pain, etc., be reported by the staff to the Intensivist or concerned treating Doctor, as soon as possible.

We had slight trouble with some of the nurses who treated my mother rudely — a Ward Boy, who the moment she was brought to the hospital, asked her to get off the wheelchair on her own eventhough she was serious enough to be admitted to the ICU. The night ‘Ayahbai’ was pretty rude, but there were other ‘Ayahs’ (like the one who comes from Palghar) who gave us bed sheets when woollen blankets were not available. Unfortunately, she was wrongly scolded.

However, leaving aside all this, my mother would like to thank Dr. Aseem Diwan and all the staff who have helped her back to recovery.

Sister Pragati Shirke was one of the best staff we came across and hope she continues the good work.

“. . . . . . .The environment is very good; this hospital is excellent for patients with serious illnesses.

But there is scope for improvement in the billing counter and the security staff – they should be trained to handle people carefully.

Overall, it is a very good hospital and can be excellent in years to come.”

“. . . . . . . Even the sweepers would enquire about my health.

‘Prasadam’ was also very excellent – in fact, much more delicious than home food.

Last but not the least, the ‘Matajis' of the Spiritual Care Department used to come daily and speak with me. It was such a nice experience. I felt that I was on some spiritual picnic.

And above all, daily ‘darshan’ of Lord Jagannath - as soon as I would get the ‘darshan’ all my pains would go within a second.

I really appreciate Bhaktivedanta Hospital.”

  1. “Sisters were co-operative and took good care.
  2. Some of the ‘Maushis’ were not co-operative.
  3. Doctors are really good and concerned.
  4. Nice rooms, but the worst part of the room was the Mosquitoes (too many), which forced us to spend sleepless nights.
  5. Overall, it is a very well maintained hospital.

“I was admitted in September, 2005, for fever and serious stomachache; when the test was going on, the Doctors told me that I have T.B and have to take medicine for it. I got discharged in 5 days. Then again, I got some pain in my backbone and my mother decided to admit me in another hospital. I insisted, ‘If you want to hospitalize me, then you must admit me in Bhaktivedanta Hospital; I will not go to any other hospital!’

This hospital is very nice and I am in love with the people here. They come and talk to the patient. The patients feel like they are at home with their relatives taking care of them. The environment is like a temple. As soon as we enter the hospital we feel like we have entered a temple and the soft music of “HARE RAMA HARE KRISHNA” feels so nice. The staff members are also very nice – they personally see to the patient’s medication.

Talking about Damodara Pandita prabhu – I like to talk to him. He tells so many things which are very helpful in future life. If he sits and talks with me for the whole day it will be less for me. If anything happens to anywhere, and me, anytime I will come to this hospital only.

KEEP IT UP BHAKTIVEDANTA HOSPITAL!”

  1. The ward / room (including the Toilet) needs to be inspected for cleanliness before a patient is allotted the room.
  2. Nurse / Doctor should attend to the patient at regular intervals.
  3. Overall cleanliness is satisfactory.
  4. Regular chanting of Hare Krishna ‘mahamantra’ is soothing and must be explained to every patient in various words. It further depends on the patient or their relatives to make further progress.”

“My father was admitted, in this hospital, on 16th of January – he was suffering from a liver problem. First day we were all fine, thinking that my father will be okay in 2 days. But on the second day, the Doctor called me and told me that his condition is bad; he said it would take some time for recovery. This made me feed a bit relieved. But, on the 3rd day, the Doctor explained that my father’s condition had become even worse – he was not reacting to the medication. As only my mother and myself were here, it was really difficult for me to console her and control my emotions; we didn’t have any strong male support.

Meanwhile, the people who came toward me and gave me strength were Damodara Panditji and also all the Spiritual Care ‘matajis’. At that time, I needed a lot of mental strength. Being a girl of just 22 years, it was really difficult. In these moment of tension we usually don’t feel like remembering God; but they asked me – in fact, they insisted that we read Gita and chant Hare Krishna ‘mahamantra’ which really helped me become stable. My mother was also feeling good.

I think every person should follow the same path, which they suggested. Whether a person believes in spiritualism or not; if he listens to the same music, continuously, after the 10th or 11th time, he automatically starts murmuring that – in this way, we are remembering God. I feel it creates a peaceful atmosphere in the whole hospital.

The care we received was extraordinarily good; even all the doctors co-operated and patiently cleared our doubts. My heartfelt thanks to Dr. Vivek Dubey, the pathologists (sorry, I don’t know their names) Dr. B.C. Shah and all the other sisters and brothers.

Regarding the food – it is excellent from the health point of view.

This hospital has taught me many things – I promise that I will try my best to follow all that I have learnt.

I felt that I may not see my dad alive again; but, all you people and God have saved my father’s life and given him a second chance.”

“When people were celebrating the arrival of the New Year (2006), at midnight 12, I was admitting my wife in the I.M.C.U. Being the 31st of December and the next day being a Sunday, we thought no good doctor would be available. I lost hope. But, all the facilities are available at Bhaktivedanta Hospital 365 days a year and 24 hours a day.

Dr. Aseem Diwan attended to us and immediately admitted my wife to the IMCU. Throughout the night, I was alone outside the IMCU – the chanting of Hare Krishna ‘mahamantra’ was there to give me great strength. Due to this I was able to maintain emotional equilibrium and not fall prey to negative thought processes. I am deeply grateful to the hospital for providing the twenty four hour chanting of the Holy Name. . . . . . . .
