Excerpts From Highlights Of “Patient Voice” On Spiritual Care

“Doctors – Very Good

Nurses – Very pleasant. Very friendly.

Food – Spicy; but good service and well maintained timings.

Cleanliness –

  1. Overall Good – but the bathroom needs to be cleaned everyday, especially the basin. Just pouring phenol does not seem enough.

  2. Changing of bed sheets should be done after 8.00 am, earliest. Waking up the patient just for that is so heartless – especially children.

  3. In the afternoon, the maid comes to clean, fill water, sweep & swab. But, they can just do their work a little silently. They come banging doors, shifting chairs, etc., noisily. In any case, the patient loses his sleep, which is so important for recovery.”

“This letter is regarding my feeling towards your hospital and your organization. Your services have touched our hearts. It’s such a wonderful feeling when you are in an extraordinary atmosphere, where everything is in a spiritual mood. Generally, we never get such a pure environment in other hospitals.

It is my child’s great fortune that she receives the mercy of God from the very moment of her birth. . . . . . . I am fully satisfied with your counseling sessions and, of course, the “Mandir Darshan”. . ..”

“My name is Salma Siraj. I had brought in my husband Gulam Mohammed Siraj at around 4 pm, on 5th January 2006, from Sai Aashirwad Hospital which did not have artificial
respirator facilities. He was admitted in ICU Bed No. 9. I had never been to your hospital before,
but, since my husband was ill I reluctantly brought him here.

I am born a Muslim, but for the last eleven years (since I entered spirituality) I had not
been following any particular religion . I just knew that I am a human being with a beautiful soul and will follow whatever road that takes me nearer to God.

My husband had always been a devout Muslim. Ten years ago, my daughter opted to marry a Rajasthani Hindu, Vinay Chauhan. The whole family went against her. I stood with her and got her married . My husband always supported me in whatever I did; but my son and brother and sister broke off all relations with us. These were the only relatives I had – but as I was already a
spiritual teacher and healer, I thought that it could be God’s way of freeing me of all ‘bandhans’, so that I could pursue my path. But, my husband took it very badly, so much so that he told me that if and when he died, none of these relatives should be allowed to attend his funeral. So, I found myself all alone even while he was in the hospital. My daughter has injured her foot and it is in plaster – it was Vinay who stood with me throughout my ordeal and, later, my whole student group was with me and still is.

But while all this drama was unfolding, I could not help noticing that your hospital staff was so full of compassion . I had experienced rudeness and apathy in both the other hospitals we took him to before we came here. After all formalities were over, Dr Aseem Diwan so lovingly explained my husband’s condition to me that all my fear of hospitals was gone . The only personal contact I had was with Dr Aseem – he was so kind that there was no need to talk to any other people around me. The calmness and compassion of the staff were there for all to see.

I was especially touched when on the morning of the 6th , one of your workers came to sweep the floor. There was no rudeness of telling people to move. My bags were lying in the corner but he did not tell me to move them or pick them up – I picked them up on my own. Once he had cleaned that area, he told me, “Madam, you may keep your bags back”.

I would also like to make mention of your mobile temple, which Gaurangi ‘Mataji’ brought around. I could not help taking ‘prasada’; I love doing puja. At that movement something got ‘mata’ and me talking. Gaurangi came to know that I was the wife of a serious patient in the I.C.U. I also know that the calmness of patients and their loved ones and your staff is because of the Geeta ‘Path’ (‘kirtan’) that we hear all the time; but, it is kept so soft that the religious feelings of the people of other religions are not hurt.

My husband was lucky to be there, where he could absorb the Geeta all night and could pass away, so peacefully, for his real home.

I will always be thankful to your hospital and it’s staff – especially Dr. Aseem Diwan and Gaurangi ‘Mataji’.

PLEASE ! NEVER CHANGE !!”

“To be admitted in a hospital (with any disease) is very troublesome. But, staying in Bhaktivedanta Hospital is like residing in a holy place.

The presence of the Lord, here, is such that we feel the Lord, Himself, giving us shelter and taking away all our problems. When Lord Jagannath gives us His ‘darshan’, it feels as if He has personally come to bless us. We have taken the food of Bhaktivedanta Hospital as ‘prasada’ because the food has turned into nectar by the Hare Krishna ‘dhun’ going on day and night.

The Doctors and staff, here, are devotees of Sri Gopal Ji which gives us strength to fight with the disease. The ‘darshan’ of Guru Maharaj, at the entrance, is so enticing that half the disease is cured at that time.”

“This is to inform you that I was admitted, evening of Saturday, 24th December, 05 in second class Bed No 08A and transferred to Deluxe Bed No 01 on 26th December at 5.30pm.

I wish to bring the following to your notice :

  1. Appreciation :- Nurses, staff and doctors are regular in attendance. The breakfast and meals were regular but the empty plates were not removed, even after two hours, and a bad odour spread over the room.

  2. Suggestions:
    1. To keep a TV set, at least in Deluxe Rooms, and relay CDs of Hare Rama Hare Krishna or Jagannath Puri Festival, etc. in the morning and evening and even . . . . . . . . .

    2. To keep a Ball Pen, in each room, with thick thread like in Commercial Banks

  3. Complaint :- As advised by the Doctor, I was taken on Monday, 26th December 05, at 1.50 pm for Sonography, by the ward boy in a wheel chair. But, no sonography was done till 2.30 pm and I was brought back to my Bed No 08A . The morning sisters went home; so I informed the evening sisters to send me for sonography. Accordingly, the ward sister phoned the nurse, in the Sonography Department, at 3.30 pm – I was called down at about 3.55 pm. I was then taken down to the Sonography Department at about 4.10 pm; there were other OPD patients waiting. All of those OPD patients were first finished and then, I was called at about 5.15 pm – my sonography test was finally done at 5.30 pm and I came back, to the ward, at about 5.40 pm.

It clearly shows that the patient was not given proper treatment. I am a heart patient, having Diabetes, and therefore required immediate attention from the Sonography Department.”
